Chef’s Tips:
- Sargent Farms Lean Ground Chicken has a good balance of fat and meat, which will help ensure the meatballs are moist and flavourful.
- To help bind the meatballs together, use fresh breadcrumbs made from good-quality bread. Stale breadcrumbs can make the meatballs dry and tough.
- As the name suggests, Cheesy Chicken Meatballs rely on cheese for flavour. Use strong-flavoured cheese such as Parmesan or Asiago to give the meatballs a delicious taste.
- Mix all ingredients thoroughly to ensure the meatballs are well-seasoned and the cheese evenly distributed.
- Use a small cookie or ice cream scoop to portion the meat mixture. It will help ensure that the meatballs are even sized and cook evenly.
- Overcooking can cause the meatballs to dry out.
- To complement the cheesy flavor of the meatballs, serve them with a flavourful sauce such as tomato sauce or a creamy Alfredo sauce.
Ingredients:
1 lb Sargent Farms Lean Ground Chicken
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 egg
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon dried basil
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
4 oz/114g mozzarella cheese, cut into small cubes
1 cup marinara sauce
Fresh basil leaves, for garnish (optional)
Directions:
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C); line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
- Combine ground chicken, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and black pepper in a large mixing bowl. Mix well until the ingredients are evenly combined.
- Scoop out the mixture by the tablespoonful and form it into a ball. Press a cube of mozzarella cheese into the center, covering it with the chicken mixture.
- Arrange the meatballs onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them apart. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through with an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
- Meanwhile, warm the marinara sauce in a small saucepan over medium heat.
- Serve the Cheesy Chicken Meatballs hot with the marinara sauce on the side, garnished with fresh basil leaves, if desired.
